A small gathering to honor the second year of Lucas’s passing
Our summer was a busy and emotional one, as we experienced the unexpected passing of another family member in June. The loss left me feeling raw and shifted our focus toward family time and healing. As the second anniversary of Lucas’s passing approached, I felt the need to keep our remembrance small and personal.
We chose to plant a tree at our home in Lyle, WA, along the driveway in a spot with a beautiful view. We invited family to join us, and each of us took a few quiet moments alone to write a message to Lucas on a piece of biodegradable paper. Together, we placed our notes into a bowl of water, stirred them gently, and then took turns pouring the water around the tree. It was an emotional and tender moment, but I could feel Lucas’s spirit reminding me to focus on the importance of laughter, joy, and finding moments of fun even in the midst of grief.
